Overview

The association of Ragas with seasons has been an interesting study to every student of music. Raga Basant is introduced with a Chhota Khayal. Another Raga belonging to the Poorvi family is Paraj. Paraj can be differenciated from Basant with change in the Chalan or the approach of Swaras of the Raga.  A Bandish is learnt in this Paraj. Student creates a melody in Raga Basant describing the Spring. Student could combine Basant and Bahar for the composition exercise. Raga Bihag and Durga is reviewed with the different compositions Aalap and Taan.  Raga Patdeep is reviewed with a Bandish in Rupak, this could be improvised using Thumri expressions.
