Meerabai is one of the most loved and adored saint poets of the Bhakti stream which richly contributed to the music and literature of India. She wrote songs in praise of Lord Krishna This course has three Meera Bhajans, based on Ragas Yaman, Bhimpalasi and Kalavati. The student does Swar Sadhana and voice exercises in the Swaras of these Ragas. Developing stability and flexibility of voice with attention to portraying the emotions in the Bhajan is an integral part of the course. The student also develops skills and knowledge of different Talas and rhythm structures used for singing Bhajans.

Objectives

  • To do Swar Sadhana with the Swaras of Raga Yaman, Raga Bhimpalasi and Raga Kalavati.
  • To learn Meera Bhajans based on these Ragas
  • To listen to different compositions in the same Ragas
  • To study about the life and works of Meera
  • To learn/review the Theka of Bhajan Taal and Keherva
  • To understand the emotions conveyed in these three Bhajans

Learning Outcomes

 The student is able to

  • Sing the basic notation structures in Ragas Yaman, Bhimpalasi and Kalavati
  • Sing the Bhajans in Sur and Taal
  • Understand the connotation of the three Meera Bhajans sung
  • Express the emotions in the songs with the necessary voice modulations and use of Meend, Murki and Kan
  • Follow the rhythm structures in Bhajans
  • Differentiate different song types 

 

The student has completed HV104 at the academy OR has learnt the basics of Hindustani classical Music for at least 1.5 years.
